To help achieve USAID's objective of strengthening programs to improve the health status of Africans, Africa's Health in 2010 identifies key issues, analyzes and documents program performance and shares the lessons learned from the analysis and program monitoring and evaluation in multisectoral HIV/AIDS programming.
Within the context established by the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), Africa 2010 focuses on the following:
- Advocacy and technical assistance for the adoption of a multisectoral approach to HIV/AIDS programming by USAID missions and Partners
- Identification, documentation and dissemination of best and promising practices
- Development and dissemination of guidelines for effective multisectoral HIV/AIDS programming
- Provision of appropriate support for the incorporation of multisectoral approaches in mission and partner strategic plans, annual work plans, and reports
- Provision of support for the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of programs
Illustrative activities include:
- Analysis of impact of existing programs and initiation of new strategies
- Technical assistance for safe, quality education in high prevalence HIV countries
- Expansion and strengthening of human capacity
- Reduction of vulnerability to HIV/AIDS and other diseases
- Improvement of knowledge base and encouragement of innovation
