BIOGRAPHY:
Dr. Doyin Oluwole has 30 years of experience as a public health practitioner in Africa, including 10 years of management responsibility at the regional level and as a country representative for the World Health Organization/Africa Office (WHO/AFRO). As Director of Family and Reproductive Health at WHO/AFRO, she provided strategic vision, outstanding leadership, and effective advocacy in developing and implementing regional reproductive, women and maternal, newborn, and child health strategies. Dr. Oluwole also has expertise as a Professor of Pediatrics and experience in public health with training in epidemiology. Dr. Oluwole has an MD (Honors); a Certificate of Epidemiology from Emory University, and FRCP from Edinburgh. She has published over 50 peer-reviewed articles and was honored as the 2005 Woman of the Year by the American Biographical Institute and in 2006, by AED for Technical Leadership. She has attended and made presentations or moderated at various international and regional global health conferences. |

BIOGRAPHY:
Dr. Sambe Duale is a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of International Health and Development of Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine. He is a public health professional with 30 years of experience in policy dialogue, design, management, and evaluation of health programs in Sub-Saharan Africa. He has consulted for regional and international health organizations on issues of primary health care, maternal and child health, infectious diseases, and surveillance and epidemic outbreak responses in Africa. From 1993 to 2006, he served as the Senior Research Manager and Infectious Disease Advisor for the Support for Analysis and Research in Africa (SARA) I and II projects. Dr. Duale holds a Medical Doctor degree from the University of Kinshasa School of Medicine, a Masters of Public Health degree from Tulane University, and an honorary Doctor of Science degree from North Park University in Chicago. |

BIOGRAPHY:
Laura Copenhaver holds a masters degree in Public Health from Tulane University and has over fifteen years experience in the field of international development. She is the Director of Operations for the Africas Health in 2010 Project at AED, providing daily management, coordination, and supervision for all of project activities. This includes management, organization and logistics of conferences and consultative meetings in the U.S. and Africa, coordination and supervision for all consultant support to USAID AFR/SD in Washington and overseas, supervision of the development and maintenance of the projects management information system, supervision of administrative staff, and provision of overall leadership in developing strategies for achievement of contract/project objectives. Before joining AED, Ms. Copenhaver worked in Africa in Benin with the Peace Corps, then with CRS in Kenya (Community Health Unit), Rwanda (Program Development Manager), Malawi (Head of Programming), and Zimbabwe (Health Technical Advisor for Southern Africa). |

BIOGRAPHY:
Dr. Winston J. Allen is an International Development expert with over 25 years of experience in program monitoring and evaluation, development planning, socio-economic research, strategic information, and policy development. He has served as principal investigator for a broad range of research and evaluation studies funded by the US Government, non-governmental organizations, private foundations, and Fortune 500 Corporations. He has extensive international experience working in Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Caribbean. Prior to joining the Africa Health 2010 project, Dr. Allen worked as Senior Technical Advisor in HIV/AIDS and M&E with the Synergy Project, providing technical support to USAID/OHA and the Office of the Global AIDS Coordinator. He was Director of M&E at the Center for Development and Population Activities (CEDPA) from 1999-2002. He holds a Masters Degree in International Development and a Ph.D. in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Pennsylvania, School of Design. He has written and published several papers and articles in peer review journals and magazines on HIV/AIDS, reproductive health, food security, trade and aid to Africa. |

Ekong Emah

BIOGRAPHY:
Ekong Emah has over 15 years hands-on experience (direct or supervisory) in conceptualizing, designing and implementing a wide range of interventions for reproductive health and HIV/AIDS prevention and care. This includes advocacy, mass media campaigns, special events, media training, peer education, targeted HIV prevention interventions focusing on high risk groups, community mobilization, HIV counseling and testing, community home-based care, life planning skills for young people, networking and partnership building, and participatory monitoring and evaluation of behavior change communication programs. He is also skilled in the development of a range of communication materials and tools to enhance health programs. With extensive experience in sub Saharan Africa, he has provided technical assistance to support different countries - government institutions, civil society organizations, and for-profit private sector institutions - in program design and capacity building. Before moving into public health, Ekong served as a journalist in the print media, covering West Africa. Ekong is a Master of Social Work. He also holds a BSc in Mass Communication and an MSc in International Relations.

BIOGRAPHY:
Kathleen Kurz is the Senior Food Security and Nutrition Specialist on the Africas Health in 2010 project at the Academy for Educational Development (AED), where she works on the policy, program and evaluation aspects of the global food crisis, essential nutrition actions, and HIV, food security and nutrition. She has 20 years of experience in international nutrition and health in Africa and South Asia. Previously she was Director of Reproductive Health and Nutrition at the International Center for Research on Women, where she worked on adolescent and maternal health and nutrition, agriculture and nutrition, and gender issues, and held management responsibilities. She has conducted programmatic, descriptive and analytic research, and published numerous peer-review articles. She holds an MS and PhD in International Nutrition from Cornell University and a BA from Grinnell College. |

BIOGRAPHY:
Dr. Opoku has over 24 years of experience managing multisectoral HIV/AIDS development activities and staff within Africa for two major PVOs. He has over 10 years experience in developing and managing regional and country-specific HIV/AIDS community-based prevention and care/support activities in East and Southern Africa, and led the development of Save the Childrens HIV/AIDS strategy for southern Africa. He has managed regional programs in West and Southern Africa and provided global strategic planning and advocacy for HIV/AIDS programs with a particular focus on Africa, bringing field perspective and ensuring integration of HIV/AIDS programs with other sectors. He helped to conceptualize and managed Save the Childrens innovative and successful STEPS (formerly COPE) program for OVCs in Malawi. He has expertise in developing projects for PEPFAR and Global Fund support, encompassing HIV/AIDS prevention, surveillance, education, care and support, and demonstrated skills in negotiation, advocacy, partnership development and facilitation. Dr. Opoku earned his PhD from Iowa State and his MSE from the University of Michigan. |

BIOGRAPHY:
Stephen Musau, BCom, FCA, has more than 18 years of experience in consulting with governments on health systems strengthening, including health financing, human resource analysis, and policy development. He has also worked as a financial auditor and tax advisor in the United Kingdom and Kenya. He has expanded his skills as a Chartered Accountant into the specialty areas of National Health Accounts, financial management systems design, institutional sustainability and cost and human resource analysis, particularly in the areas of HIV/AIDS, malaria, and reproductive healthcare in several African countries for clients such as World Bank, and USAID. He is currently the Health Systems Strengthening Advisor of USAIDs Africas Health in 2010 Project. Mr. Musau has a Bachelors Degree in Accounting from the University of Nairobi and is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales. He speaks English, Swahili, and some French. |

BIOGRAPHY:
Holley Stewart assists in the development, promotion and adoption of policies and strategies for the improvement of Maternal and Newborn Health (MNH) and Reproductive Health (RH) programs in sub-Saharan Africa, and in the implementation and management of USAIDs Africa Bureaus RH and MNH portfolios. Ms. Stewart works with a variety of African stakeholders, NGOs, parastatal organizations, bilaterals, multilaterals, and professional associations to implement initiatives and activities in Africa that inform policy and programming in MNH and RH. Aside from RH and MNH, Ms. Stewart has strong technical knowledge and experience in formative behavior change and operations research related to youth, HIV, and harmful traditional practices. Born and raised in New York City, she holds degrees from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine in medical demography and from Harvard University in French history and literature. |

BIOGRAPHY:
Dr. Magdalena Serpa was born in Boston and grew up in Bogot and Kabul. She holds a maternal and child health post-doctoral fellow from Johns Hopkins University, a Masters in Public Health from Harvard, and a Medical Doctor degree from Rosario University. She also studied health care administration in Technion - Galilee College (Israel) and hospitals finance at Tufts-affiliated New England Medical Centers. With over 20 years of experience in national and international health policy and management, she represented Colombian President, Ernesto Samper-Pizano, in negotiations with multilateral donors and UN agencies; designed/monitored health systems and national maternal, child and nutrition projects; managed a maternal and pediatric teaching hospital and redesigned, launched and directed a USAID funded clinic. At Hopkins, she directed the Nutritional Assessment of MD School Children and as policy analyst participated in the creation of the Center for Male and Family Research and Resources. Her public health experience expanded to Africa when she became BASICS II Nutrition Technical Officer and the Principal Program Associate for the Center for Health Outcomes for Management Sciences for Health. |

BIOGRAPHY:
Antonia Wolff holds degrees in both international relations and International Studies and has over 12 years of professional experience in the field of international development. For the past nine years, Ms. Wolff has primarily focused on the dissemination of key research and policy related materials under the Support for Analysis and Research in Africa (SARA) Project, and the Africas Health in 2010 at AED, based in Washington DC. As a Dissemination Specialist, Ms. Wolff provides technical guidance and support to USAID and partners on issues that relate to communication and dissemination. Ms. Wolff has developed and facilitated training workshops on dissemination, repackaging and advocacy for African partners. Prior to her work for SARA, Ms. Wolff was a Research Assistant for the International Center for Research on Women, and helped administer a multimillion dollar USAID cooperative agreement that sought to promote womens research organizations all over the world. Ms. Wolff has worked throughout Africa, with Peace Corps experience in Senegal. |

BIOGRAPHY:
Dorcas Lwanga is a Dietitian/Nutritionist with 12 years experience in nutrition and dietetics. Her expertise is in nutrition and HIV/AIDS and maternal and child health nutrition. She has provided technical assistance to African institutions, NGOs, and international agencies working in Africa to support the nutritional care of people living with HIV (PLHIV), infant and young children feeding in the context of HIV, and mother-to-child transmission of HIV. Ms. Lwanga has provided nutrition assessments and education to PLHIV. She developed an interactive tutorial and a pre-service training module on the nutrition care and support of HIV-positive pregnant and lactating women, a pre-service training manual for nurses and midwives in Africa and counseling materials for nutrition care and support of PLHIV and provided technical assistance to African partners for countries to develop their national nutrition care and support guidelines for PLHIV. Currently, she is working with African partners to scale up programs to support the Essential Nutrition Actions approach to improve maternal, infant and young child nutrition. Ms. Lwanga, has a Masters in Human Nutrition, speaks French and Swahili, and is a member of the American Dietetic Association and Dietitians of Canada. |

Tammy Loverdos has over 12 years experience in communications and publishingfive of which were gained in Africa. She is originally from Zimbabwe, where she worked on marketing communications and HIV/AIDS campaigns. Before joining Africas Health in 2010, Tammy worked in Cambodia to develop health communication and promotion materials for USAID and UN funded projects. She played an integral part in the Avian Influenza campaign of 2006 and managed the communications for the USAID/URC health systems strengthening project. Tammy has lived and worked in the UK and she holds a Bachelor of Social Sciences with Honors from Rhodes University, South Africa. |

Reena Borwankar has been working in international public health, with a focus on program monitoring and evaluation and applied research for the past 10 years. At Africa's Health in 2010, she combines her skills in monitoring and evaluation and her passion for improving maternal and child health and nutrition programs. She is a core team member of several strategic areas: M&E, Maternal and Newborn Health, Gender-based Violence, Nutrition, and Reproductive Health. Before joining Africas Health in 2010, Ms. Borwankar spent five years providing evaluation support to several AED domestic and international projects. Ms. Borwankar holds an M.S. in Food Policy and Applied Nutrition with a concentration in Program Design and Evaluation from Tufts University's School of Nutrition Science and Policy. A native of India, Ms. Borwankar is fluent in Hindi, Marathi and is proficient in Spanish. |

Mr. Molina has over 12 years of experience working with USAID contractors in operations departments where duties included backstopping staff and consultants, opening and closing country field offices, hiring local staff, reconciling field office accounts, budgeting and other financial aspects. Mr. Molina joined the SARA I project in September 1998 and has continued under SARA II. Since July 2003, Mr. Molina has also backstopped three AWARE (Action for the West Africa Region) Project staff based overseas, providing them with logistics, administrative and procedural guidelines. Currently, Mr. Molina is a Program Officer for the Operations Division of the Africas Health in 2010 Project. Mr. Molina has a BA in International Affairs, and a Certificate of Graduate Study in Comparative Political Culture from IWP/Boston University. He is fluent French and a native Spanish speaker. |

Molika Forsythe holds a Masters Degree in Business Administration from the Asian Institute of Technology in Bangkok and has a decade of experience in both the private and governmental sectors. She has experience working with diverse donors, e.g., USAID, UN, EU, AusAID; and her last position before relocating to the United States was as Regional Administrator for Oxfam's East Asia Regional Office in Phnom Penh. Prior positions include those with Ockenden International, World Education, the Mekong River Commission, and the UNHCR, as well as consultancies for various clients, including WHO, IOM, World Bank, and UNDP. |

As Senior Program Associate for the Africas Health in 2010 Project, Julienne Hayford-Winful supports more than 15 program officers and coordinates administrative, logistics, programmatic activities and procedural guidelines. Prior to coming to AED, Ms. Hayford-Winful worked as a legal assistant for a law firm specializing in the rights of the elderly. Additionally, for three years, she has worked as an administrative assistant for a number of private firms and completed an internship with Human Rights Watch. Ms. Hayford-Winful currently volunteers with HOPE Worldwide, an NGO that works to meet the developmental and health needs of children and families in low income communities around the world. She has a law degree in Human Rights from the Catholic University of Lyon (France), is fluent in French, and has a working knowledge of Spanish. |

Ms. Kusdarman has extensive years of international development experience with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), at the American Embassy, Jakarta Indonesia. Before joining the Africa Health in 2010 project, her work focused on education, training, and democracy & governance. Ms. Kusdarmans pre-college and college education was completed in California which prepared her for a career at the USAID Mission in Indonesia. Her work focused on USAID policy, grants & management and USAID rules & regulations. Her dedication and service to the United States Government has brought her and family to the United States through the Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) in early 2006. |
